An international drug trafficking ring has been dismantled in Punjab, leading to the confiscation of 5.47 kg of heroin and the apprehension of seven individuals, as confirmed by the police today.
The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated, “In a significant breakthrough against cross-border drug smuggling networks, Punjab police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), have disrupted an international narcotics smuggling operation by arresting seven drug traffickers and recovering 5.47 kg of heroin along with ₹1.07 lakh in drug proceeds.”
The arrested individuals have been identified as Baljinder Singh, Sukhchain Singh, Solav Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Karandeep Singh, Daljit Singh, and Kamaldeep Singh.
Notably, accused Kamaldeep Singh has a history of criminal activities and is currently facing two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Kapurthala.
In addition to the seizure of heroin and drug money, the police teams have also found 40 cartridges, six mobile phones, 8.4 grams of gold, and 68.97 grams of silver in their possession. Furthermore, a Hyundai Verna car and three motorcycles have been impounded.
Teenage Students Involved in Drug Smuggling
DGP Yadav disclosed that initial investigations have unveiled that most of the accused, who are in their teens, are students. They were reportedly preparing for Army recruitment when they crossed paths with Kapurthala-based drug smuggler Kamaldeep Singh and got involved in heroin trafficking from across the border.
According to DGP Yadav, the accused were in contact with a smuggler based in Pakistan and were receiving drug shipments via drones.

DGP Yadav emphasized that ongoing investigations aim to establish the full scope of the criminal network and identify the Pakistan-based drug smuggler involved in the operation.
