Accident – Death – Obituary News : A couple residing in Mumbai has been taken into custody for the tragic murder of the woman’s 15-month-old child. The duo, identified as 28-year-old Rajesh Rana and 23-year-old Rinki Rana, have also been charged with filing a false kidnapping report with the local authorities. The accused, who are originally from Odisha, are now under police custody until May 28.
As per a report by India Today, Rinki arrived in Mumbai with her toddler roughly four months ago. The couple, who worked as labourers, resided at a construction site in Jogeshwari along with their son, Aman. The shocking incident unfolded when the couple approached the police on May 21, alleging that two men had kidnapped their child. The couple claimed that the men had forced the toddler to inhale a substance, causing him to lose consciousness, before fleeing in an auto rickshaw.
However, a thorough investigation utilizing CCTV footage revealed a horrifying truth. It was discovered that Rajesh had mercilessly beaten the child to death, following which the couple disposed of the body in a drain near the Aarey Milk Colony. An officer quoted by the Indian Express stated, “We then took him into custody and interrogated him. During questioning, he alleged that while taking his son to play, his son fell and sustained a head injury, resulting in his death. Rana further told us that he got scared and disposed of the body in a nullah at Goregaon.”
Subsequent to the retrieval of the body, a post-mortem examination was conducted, revealing that the toddler had succumbed to multiple injuries. Further revelations emerged during the investigation, with Rajesh disclosing that Aman was born from Rinki’s previous marriage. The investigator revealed, “Rana was questioned again, after which he revealed that Aman(the son) was born from Rinki’s first marriage. The accused had disdain for the boy as such and the couple constantly fought over the child.”
