In a shocking incident in Berhampur, the husband of the sarpanch of Shologhar panchayat has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old minor girl. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Tutu Das, is facing serious charges for his heinous crime.
According to the police reports, Tutu lured the 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her multiple times, resulting in her pregnancy. Upon learning about the girl’s condition, he attempted to terminate the pregnancy by providing her with certain medications. Additionally, he threatened the victim’s family with severe consequences if they disclosed the matter to anyone.
However, the women self-help groups (WSHGs) in Shologhar village became aware of the incident and promptly informed the village elders. Despite their efforts, no action was taken, prompting the WSHGs to file a formal complaint with the police on Friday. Subsequently, a case was registered, and both the victim and the accused underwent medical examinations.
Following the investigations, Tutu was arrested and brought before the POCSO court in Berhampur. The police have been vigilant in ensuring that justice is served in this distressing case, with IIC Bipin Bihari Hota overseeing the proceedings.
This reprehensible act has sparked outrage and condemnation from the community, highlighting the urgent need for stricter measures to protect vulnerable individuals, especially minors, from such despicable crimes.
