DCP (Shahdara) Surendra Chowdhary shared that while 12 babies were rescued from the blaze, one infant was already deceased upon rescue, and six more succumbed to their injuries shortly after. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials revealed that the fire broke out at the hospital in Shahdara during the night, triggering a swift and devastating response.

Atul Garg, the chief of DFS, informed the media that five infants are currently receiving treatment at another medical facility, battling for their lives. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the bodies of the deceased newborns have been transferred to GTB Hospital for postmortem examinations.

The authorities have identified the hospital owner as Naveen Kichi, and have vowed to take legal action against him in light of the catastrophic incident. The police are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fire, promising accountability for any lapses in safety protocols.

In response to the devastating loss of innocent lives, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating, “This incident of fire in a children’s hospital is heartbreaking. The causes of the incident are being investigated and whoever is responsible for this negligence will not be spared.”
