Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a tragic case that shook the Kearns community, Orlando Esiesa Tobar, 32, pleaded guilty on Friday to the kidnapping and murder of 25-year-old Kearns woman, Conzuelo “Nicole” Solorio-Romero, in 2021. The plea, entered on May 24, included charges of murder and aggravated kidnapping, both first-degree felonies, after initially being charged with aggravated murder, which was later amended. Tobar was also facing an obstruction of justice charge, which has now been dismissed without prejudice.

The harrowing events unfolded in February 2021 when Solorio-Romero was forcibly taken from her home by two armed men. Witnesses reported seeing her being forced into a vehicle, which led to a police investigation. She was taken to a West Valley studio apartment where witnesses observed her being questioned at knifepoint by Tobar, known as “Chaparro” in the court documents. It was revealed that Solorio-Romero had alerted a friend through a video message and denied speaking with the police, but mentioned that her husband had not committed suicide as believed, but was killed by the men holding her captive.

Tragically, Tobar, feeling that Solorio-Romero knew too much, made a fatal decision. Witnesses recounted seeing him gesture towards her, after which Jorge Medina-Reyes shot her in the back of the head. Following the chilling incident, Solorio-Romero’s body was discovered wrapped in plastic garbage bags more than a month later.

Medina-Reyes, the other individual involved in the crime, pleaded not guilty to murder and kidnapping charges. However, court records indicate that he may change his plea in June. Additionally, Fernando Marquez and Carolina Marquez are also facing murder and kidnapping charges related to the case, awaiting trial. Ivan Acosta and Cristian Morales are facing charges for alleged obstruction of justice and abuse or desecration of a dead human body.

Tobar’s sentencing is scheduled for July 22, marking the culmination of a tragic and heart-wrenching case that has deeply impacted the Kearns community.
