Accident – Death – Obituary News : An autorickshaw driver, B. Nagaraj, aged 36, was apprehended on Saturday for the theft of a seven-sovereign gold chain from a female commuter at Arakkonam railway station. The culprit, hailing from Pattabiram near Avadi in Chennai, was identified and arrested by the police.

The incident took place on May 11 when the victim, M. Abirami, 42, was returning home to Avadi after a visit to a Murugan temple in Tiruttani. While she was resting on her seat during a stop near Arakkonam railway station due to a signal malfunction, Nagaraj seized the opportunity to snatch her gold chain and flee from the scene.

With the help of fellow passengers, Abirami promptly alerted the railway police stationed at the platform. A special task force was swiftly assembled to capture the thief. In a stroke of luck, Nagaraj was spotted loitering on the platform by vigilant beat police officers and was promptly apprehended. Subsequently, he confessed to the crime and revealed the location of his stash, which contained an additional 11 sovereigns of stolen gold jewellery.

Following the recovery of the stolen items, a formal case was registered against Nagaraj, who is currently detained at the town’s sub-jail. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to uncover any additional information related to the incident..
