TOLLAND, Conn. (WTNH) — In the early hours of the morning, state police in Tolland arrested a man for driving on the wrong side of I-84 while impaired.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., multiple calls were made to state police’s Troop C reporting a vehicle heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84, with its hazard lights flashing.

Troopers in the vicinity spotted a silver Honda Crosstour that matched the description of the wrong-way driver near exits 67 and 68.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Gilberto Rivera from Hartford, was found parked on the entrance ramp of the westbound rest area.

Upon conducting a traffic stop, Troopers observed signs of impairment in Rivera and proceeded to administer Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which he failed to pass.

Rivera was subsequently taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence, driving under suspension, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and reckless endangerment in the second degree.

Following his arrest, Rivera was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on June 10.
