Authorities have successfully intervened and rescued a 22-year-old woman who was abducted from the city by her distant relative and three other individuals with the intention of forcing her into marriage. The incident took place near a toll plaza in Thozhupedu, Chengalpattu district, where all four suspects were apprehended by the police.
The victim, who was employed at a hospital in the vicinity of Velachery, had previously been in a romantic relationship with her cousin, S.Sabapathy. However, she ended the relationship at a later stage due to various reasons. Despite her decision, Sabapathy persisted in harassing her and attempting to coerce her into marrying him.
On the day of the abduction, Sabapathy, accompanied by three accomplices, intercepted the victim on her way to work. They forcibly pushed her into a vehicle, gagged her, and set off towards their hometown of Karaikudi with the intention of conducting the marriage against her will. Fortunately, passersby witnessed the incident and promptly notified the victim’s friends, who in turn alerted the Velachery police.
Upon receiving the tip-off, the Acharapakkam police swiftly intercepted the vehicle at the Thozhipedu toll plaza in Chengalpattu district. The four suspects, identified as S. Sabapthy, P.Hariharan, Ajay alias Sabarinathan, and V.Rajesh, were apprehended, and the woman was safely rescued from their clutches. The case has been transferred to the Velachery police for further investigation.
