Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A tragic discovery was made on Saturday morning when the body of a man was found in the river following extensive searches. The incident occurred at approximately 11am on May 25.
The man had been spotted the previous afternoon in Bridge Street, where he was identified as a suspect wanted for shoplifting offences. Upon police intervention, the man fled the scene and ultimately entered the water.
Formal identification of the deceased has not yet taken place, but his family has been notified of the situation. Authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and the case will be handed over to the coroner for further investigation.
In response to the incident, the Professional Standards Department of the police force has referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for independent review and oversight.
