Montgomery County Drug Dealer Arrested for Fentanyl Murder

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KIAH) – A drug dealer in Montgomery County has been apprehended for his alleged involvement in the distribution of fentanyl, a potent opioid that led to the tragic death of a young individual. The suspect, identified as Keian Alexander Cormier, was taken into custody on May 21st following a thorough investigation by law enforcement authorities.

The incident took place on March 16th when Montgomery County Sheriff Deputies responded to a distress call at a residence in Willis, located approximately an hour away from Houston. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a 21-year-old male inside the premises. Subsequent evidence analysis indicated a possible overdose on illicit substances, with fentanyl being identified as the cause of death. The county’s Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) was summoned to provide their expertise in the case.

Collaborating with the Houston High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, MOCONET has been actively combatting the fentanyl epidemic that has plagued the region. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the year 2023 witnessed a staggering toll of over 2,100 fatalities attributed to fentanyl overdoses. CW39’s Idolina Peralez sheds light on the severity of this public health crisis.

In a significant legislative development, the state House passed House Bill 6 in September 2023, introducing the charge of “Fentanyl Murder” for individuals who supply or distribute fentanyl to a recipient whose subsequent demise results from an overdose. Cormier was apprehended by MOCONET and is currently detained in Montgomery County jail. He faces a murder charge for his alleged role in providing fentanyl to the victim, leading to the tragic outcome. Cormier will remain incarcerated pending his court hearing.
