(WBTV) – The human remains discovered on Tuesday in a wooded area off River Circle have been positively identified as those of 21-year-old Samuel Haugh, who had been reported missing by his family on May 5th. This tragic revelation comes in the wake of the discovery of Haugh’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Michael Olarte, who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the same day Haugh was reported missing.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, their investigation into Haugh’s disappearance and Olarte’s death uncovered disturbing details. It was revealed that Olarte had harmed Haugh on April 29th before disposing of his body and taking his own life. The Missing Persons Unit’s search efforts eventually led them to the grim discovery of Haugh’s remains on May 21, 2024.
