Accident – Death – Obituary News : A man from Pennsylvania has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison following his conviction for the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at a gas station in Burlington County, New Jersey in 2021. Tamir Phillips, 24, of Bensalem, was found guilty of murder and two weapons-related charges in November, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
The tragic incident took place on August 21, 2021, at the Phillips 66 gas station on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Willingboro. Willingboro police officers responded to a report of a shooting and discovered that the victim, 14-year-old Jesse Everett, had been taken to Virtua Willingboro Hospital before being airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he was pronounced dead.
Phillips, who was known to frequent Willingboro, was quickly identified as a suspect in the shooting, and charges were filed against him the following day. Detectives learned that the day before the shooting, the owner of a 2014 Honda Civic had reported the car stolen to township police. The owner often allowed Phillips to use the car.
On the day of the shooting, Phillips was a passenger in another vehicle when the stolen Civic was seen at the gas station. Phillips got out of the car, approached the driver’s side of the Civic where Everett was seated, and fired a single shot, striking the teenager in the head. Two other individuals in the car were unharmed.
Phillips has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison without the possibility of parole. This tragic incident has left a community in mourning and serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence.
