The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the three family members involved in a tragic incident in Rancho Cordova. The incident, which took place in the early hours of Thursday morning, resulted in the death of two elderly parents and their son.
According to reports, the authorities were alerted to the situation when a woman called emergency services to report that she had been shot at a residence on the 3300 block of Hartselle Way. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found 69-year-old Marylou Konvalin outside the front door, suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, Marylou Konvalin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Thomas Konvalin, 38, refused to leave the residence and engaged in a three-hour standoff with law enforcement. Despite attempts to negotiate with him, Thomas Konvalin remained unresponsive. It was believed that there was another victim inside the home, prompting the authorities to call for additional assistance.
After hours of negotiation, Thomas Konvalin emerged from the home with a rifle. In a tragic turn of events, he was shot and killed by SWAT deputies. Inside the residence, the body of William Konvalin, 72, was discovered and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident. The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives will examine whether the actions of the deputies were in accordance with departmental policies.
Additionally, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will conduct its own investigation into the incident, as is standard procedure in cases involving law enforcement-related shootings.
