Authorities in Houston are on the lookout for a woman accused of attacking a disabled woman inside a parking garage in the Medical Center on April 23. Tristian Newton, 26, has been charged with injury to a disabled person.

Incident Details

The 87-year-old victim reported that she was driving through garage 22 on Main Street when she encountered a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta traveling in the wrong direction, almost leading to a collision. The victim attempted to get the driver’s attention by rolling down her window, but the driver responded by cursing at her and spitting on her mouth.

The disabled woman, who relies on crutches to walk due to a deteriorating spine, then exited her vehicle after the altercation escalated. She tried to take a photo of the driver’s car with her cellphone, prompting the suspect to physically attack her. During the assault, the victim lost her balance, fell to the ground, and sustained injuries.

The victim suffered a fractured bone on the right side of her face, a black eye, and abrasions as a result of the attack. The suspect, identified as Newton, also allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone before fleeing the scene.

Suspect’s Account

During a phone interview with investigators, Newton admitted to driving the wrong way and nearly colliding with the victim. She claimed that the victim was the aggressor in the situation and had provoked her. Newton stated that she defended herself by striking the victim before ultimately ceasing the attack.

Newton also suggested that the victim may have been under the influence of drugs, as she was screaming for help during the altercation. The suspect admitted to taking the victim’s cellphone in an attempt to have her follow her, but later surrendered it to garage security before leaving the scene.
