Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On the night of May 23rd, deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of Tabron School Road in Hollister. Deputy J. Snider responded to the scene and found the vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway. Upon attempting to stop the car, the driver, identified as Justin Rayshaun Hewlin, 22, of Hollister, suddenly drove off.

Captain Scott Hall released a statement detailing the events that followed. Hewlin, in an attempt to evade the authorities, turned off the vehicle’s lights and sped towards the Warren County border. However, his reckless driving led to a crash as he failed to stop at a stop sign on Odell Arcola Road, causing the car to collide with the nearby wood line. Hewlin and a passenger then fled the scene on foot.

After a brief search, deputies located Hewlin and a female companion walking along Tabron School Road. Despite attempting to flee once more, Hewlin was apprehended by law enforcement. Further investigation revealed that Hewlin was subject to a domestic violence court order prohibiting contact with the female passenger.

Deputy Snider placed Hewlin under arrest and charged him with multiple offences, including felony flee to elude, failure to heed lights or siren, resisting arrest, reckless driving, violation of a court order, driving with an expired license, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to maintain lane discipline, and exceeding safe speed limits.

Following his arrest, Hewlin was remanded to Halifax County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27th.
