Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a tragic shooting incident that claimed the lives of two teenagers in Milwaukee over the weekend. Christopher N. Scott faces two counts of first-degree reckless homicide and one count of armed robbery, according to a complaint filed on Thursday. The suspect is currently at large, with authorities issuing a warrant for his arrest.

The victims of the shooting have been identified as Alejandro Sanchez and Monroe Weso, both 15 years old. The incident took place on Saturday night in the 1400 block of West Halsey Avenue on the south side of Milwaukee. It has been reported that Scott allegedly used a ghost gun, which he had taken from a family member, during the attack.

Ghost guns, unserialized and untraceable firearms assembled from separate pieces that can be purchased without a background check, have become a growing concern for law enforcement in Milwaukee. The accessibility of firearms to children, whether serialized or not, has raised alarms in the community, especially following a surge in gun purchases at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The families of Sanchez and Weso have described the boys as best friends who were outgoing, friendly, creative, and loved by all. To help with memorial services, both families have set up GoFundMe pages for donations.

The incident unfolded during an alleged robbery attempt, where Scott brought the gun to a sleepover with two other males, one of them being a 13-year-old. The group planned to rob Sanchez for marijuana, according to the complaint. The gun, described as a ghost gun from Minnesota, was never intended to be fired during the robbery.

Surveillance footage captured the tragic events that unfolded during the robbery, showing a physical struggle between Sanchez and Scott over the gun. Weso attempted to intervene after Scott gained control of the firearm and began shooting.

The prevalence of guns in the community has been linked to a rise in youth firearm injuries and deaths. According to a study published by the Medical College of Wisconsin, the increase in the manufacturing of 9mm pistols has correlated with a surge in youth firearm-related incidents. From 2001 to 2020, firearm deaths and injuries for children have risen significantly, underscoring the need for stricter gun control measures and safe storage practices.

To address the issue of gun accessibility to children, several organizations in Milwaukee offer free gun locks. These include the United Neighborhood Center of Milwaukee, City on a Hill, Milwaukee Christian Center, Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, Neu-Life Community Development, Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, COA Youth and Family Centers, Northcott Neighborhood House, and Journey House. Additionally, all Milwaukee Fire Department stations and health centers run by the Milwaukee Health Department provide free gun locks to the public.
