Driver Flees from Miccosukee Police, Crashes Stolen Vehicle in Broward County

In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday morning, a driver identified as 20-year-old Gabriel Martinez evaded Miccosukee police during a traffic stop on Interstate 75. Martinez then proceeded to crash the stolen vehicle on U.S. 27 near Griffin Road in Broward County.

Following the incident, authorities revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in the city of Miami. Martinez, who was reportedly travelling at a high rate of speed, attempted to flee from law enforcement, leading to a pursuit.

During the chase, Martinez made dangerous maneuvers, including slamming on the brakes in an effort to run the pursuing officer off the road. Despite police flashing their lights, Martinez accelerated in a bid to escape capture.

After a K9 search, Martinez was apprehended following a crash in a nearby wooded area. He was then taken to Cleveland Clinic in Weston for a medical evaluation before being transported to jail.

A search of the stolen vehicle uncovered burglary tools, indicating potential criminal intent. The passenger in Martinez’s vehicle was released at the scene, while Martinez, who was already on probation for a previous fleeing and eluding incident, now faces multiple charges.

Martinez’s charges include grand theft auto, possession of burglary tools, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding police, and aggravated assault on an officer, firefighter, or EMT. As of Thursday morning, he remained in custody at the Broward County Main Jail.
