DAYTON, Nev. (KOLO) – Two individuals from Silver Springs have been apprehended on drug charges following a routine traffic stop in Dayton, where law enforcement officials discovered a significant quantity of methamphetamine and other illicit substances.

During the early hours of Thursday, detectives from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in Dayton, with the driver identified as 62-year-old James Weslow and the passenger as 59-year-old Penny Bettencourt.

Authorities found a substantial amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle, prompting them to execute a search warrant at the suspects’ residence in Silver Springs. The subsequent search uncovered additional quantities of methamphetamine, as well as various other narcotics.

In total, law enforcement recovered 2.1 pounds of methamphetamine, 11 pounds of marijuana, 42 grams of cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia, sales packaging materials, and seven firearms.

Weslow and Bettencourt were taken into custody and booked into the Lyon County Jail on charges related to trafficking a schedule 1 controlled substance. Weslow’s bail was set at $229,895, while Bettencourt’s bail was established at $17,280.
