Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Police in Montreal have announced the arrest of a 20-year-old individual in connection with the shooting incidents that targeted the Yeshiva Gedolah of Montreal last November. The incidents took place on November 9 and November 12, with bullet holes being found near the entrance of the school building during the second incident.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered firearm projectiles impacts on the school door and shell casings on the ground. The suspect, identified as Abdirazak Mahdi Ahmed by local media, appeared in court on Wednesday to face charges including discharging a firearm, theft, and receiving stolen vehicles.

The Montreal City Police Service has stated that the investigation will continue to determine if there were any other individuals involved in the shooting incidents. Eta Yudin, vice president for the Quebec branch of CIJA, expressed that the attack had caused significant stress and anxiety within the Jewish community in Quebec.

Yudin also mentioned that the incident marked a change in the threats faced by the Jewish community in the region and highlighted the need for more serious charges to be brought against the suspect. The escalation of violence and hatred against the community has been a cause for concern, with the hope that justice will be served in this case.

According to the Annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents from B’nai Brith Canada, Canada witnessed a record number of antisemitic incidents in 2023, with nearly 5,800 acts of Jew hatred being reported. This highlights the importance of addressing and combating hate crimes to ensure the safety and well-being of all communities.
