The West Bengal CID on Thursday made a breakthrough in the case of the brutal murder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party MP Anwarul Azim. A butcher, specially brought in from Mumbai, has been arrested in connection with the heinous crime. Police suspect that the MP may have been lured into a flat in New Town by a woman before being brutally murdered by contract killers.
Reports suggest that the butcher, identified as 24-year-old Jihad Hawladar, was brought to Kolkata two months prior to the murder. Hawladar, an illegal immigrant residing in Mumbai, confessed to carrying out the gruesome act on the orders of Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin who has been named as the mastermind behind the murder.
According to authorities, Anwarul Azim’s body was deskin, minced, and his bones were cut into small pieces before being packed and disposed of to destroy any evidence of the crime. The arrested suspect had previously met one of the prime accused in the murder case, further complicating the investigation.
Who is Shilasti Rahman?
Sources within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have revealed that Shilasti Rahman, a Bangladeshi national, is believed to be the girlfriend of Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen. Rahman was allegedly seen entering the residential apartment in New Town along with the MP and two other men who were involved in his murder. The apartment had been rented by Akhtaruzzaman.
It is suspected that Shilasti Rahman played a pivotal role in luring Anwarul Azim from Dhaka to Kolkata, where the tragic events unfolded. Authorities in Dhaka also suspect that Akhtaruzzaman has since fled to the United States, adding further complexity to the ongoing investigation.
