On Tuesday, May 21, a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence mid-air, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing at Bangkok airport. The incident resulted in multiple injuries to passengers, with some being rushed to the hospital for intensive care.

Details of the Incident

A total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members were onboard the Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 when it experienced extreme turbulence at 37,000 feet over the Irrawaddy Basin. The turbulence caused the aircraft to drop 6,000 feet in just three minutes, leading to chaos and panic among passengers.

Among the injured, 22 passengers suffered spinal injuries, while six passengers sustained head injuries. Tragically, a 73-year-old British man named Geoffrey Kitchen suffered a fatal heart attack during the turbulence and passed away. His wife, Linda, who was accompanying him on their holiday trip, was left devastated by the loss.

One of the youngest victims of the turbulence was a two-year-old girl who suffered a concussion. The oldest passenger to sustain injuries was an 83-year-old man, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Response and Recovery

Following the emergency landing in Bangkok, medical teams were immediately dispatched to provide assistance to the injured passengers. Singapore Airlines issued a statement expressing their condolences for the loss of Mr. Kitchen and assuring full cooperation with the authorities in the investigation of the incident.

Passengers who witnessed the terrifying ordeal described it as one of the scariest moments of their lives, with many fearing for their safety during the turbulent descent. The airline has offered support and counselling to all affected passengers and crew members to help them cope with the traumatic experience.
