Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Indian student tragically lost his life in a bike accident in the United States on Wednesday evening, as reported by the Consulate General of India in New York. The deceased, identified as Belem Atchyuth, was a student at the State University of New York (SUNY) and hailed from Andhra Pradesh.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the Consulate General of India in New York expressed profound sadness over the untimely demise of Belem Atchyuth. The post read, “Saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Shri Belem Atchyuth, a student at SUNY who met with a bike accident and passed away yesterday evening. Our deepest condolences to the family. @IndiainNewYork is in touch with the bereaved family & local agencies.”

The consulate further mentioned that they were in contact with the family members of the deceased student and had reached out to local authorities to provide all necessary assistance, including repatriating Atchyuth’s remains to India.

This unfortunate incident adds to a series of recent tragedies involving Indian students in the US. Just last month, Mohammed Abdul Arfath, a student from Hyderabad pursuing a Master’s degree in IT at Cleveland University in Ohio, was found dead. The Consulate General of India in New York disclosed that Arfath had been missing since March this year and assured that a thorough investigation into his death was ongoing.

Meanwhile, there has been a noticeable decline in the number of Indian students opting to pursue higher education in the UK. Official statistics released in London revealed a significant drop of 16% in registered applicants for Master’s degree programs. The UK Home Office data, based on the Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures, indicated that there were 21,717 fewer sponsored study visa grants to Indian nationals in the year ending March 2024, compared to the previous year.

As the global Indian student community mourns the loss of Belem Atchyuth and Mohammed Abdul Arfath, it serves as a stark reminder of the challenges and risks faced by those studying abroad. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the departed souls during this difficult time.
