PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Alejandro Moya has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after attempting to meet up with a 13-year-old at a hotel in Pharr, according to federal records.
The incident took place on May 9, 2019, when a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations was conducting an online investigation on the app “Whisper.” During the investigation, the agent posed as a 13-year-old girl and created a post stating “Boys suck!! Ughhhh,” as detailed in a criminal complaint.
Following the post, the agent received a sexually explicit response from a user identified as “Earth_Cat.” The conversation continued on the app “Kik,” where the user, later identified as Moya under the username “Alexm421,” sent unsolicited videos and pictures.
Despite the agent’s repeated statements about being a 13-year-old female, Moya acknowledged and continued communicating inappropriately. He expressed a desire to meet the girl in person, leading to a planned meeting at a Pharr hotel, where he was subsequently apprehended by HSI agents.
Upon his arrest, Moya admitted to sending explicit material and driving to the hotel with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with the minor. As part of his sentencing, he was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release and provide access to his computer and data storage to his probation officer.
