LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) – On May 15th, 2024, at around 11:16 PM, officers from the Hobbs Police Department responded to a tragic incident in the 600 block of North McKinley in Hobbs. Upon their arrival, they discovered two male individuals, identified as 54-year-old David Castillo and 52-year-old Felipe Castillo, both residents of Hobbs, with gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of EMS, both individuals tragically succumbed to their injuries on the scene.
After an extensive investigation, which lasted eight days, an arrest warrant was issued for 34-year-old David Rodriguez-Baeza, also known as “Paps” from Hobbs, NM. On May 23rd, 2024, officers and detectives successfully located and apprehended Mr. Rodriguez-Baeza without any further incident.
Mr. Rodriguez-Baeza is now facing charges of Murder, a 1st Degree Felony, with two counts against him. His criminal record is extensive and includes numerous offenses such as probation and parole violations, failure to pay, traffic offenses, drug-related charges, resisting arrest, theft, assault, and more.
In response to the arrest, Chief August Fons stated, “This arrest was the result of tireless investigative efforts and exceptional collaboration between HPD Patrol Officers, Criminal Investigation Division Detectives, and civilian support staff. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and commitment of our team in bringing about this arrest.”
