A Redding resident has been taken into custody in connection with a triple homicide in Shasta County, which includes the brutal killing of a 75-year-old woman in Lakehead.

Michael Todd Merryman, aged 33, is set to appear in court on Friday for arraignment on three counts of murder, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office.

The investigation commenced on April 30 when deputies from the sheriff’s department were summoned to a residence in the 21000 block of Riverview Drive in Lakehead to conduct a welfare check on 75-year-old Pamela Castleberry, according to the sheriff’s officials.

Upon arriving at the premises, law enforcement officers observed signs of a break-in at the house, with Castleberry and her vehicle reported missing. Tragically, Castleberry’s lifeless body was discovered inside her vehicle the following day, May 1, in a secluded area of Bella Vista.

Following an autopsy, authorities ruled Castleberry’s death as a homicide. Approximately a week later, on May 6, detectives returned to the location where Castleberry’s body was found and stumbled upon two more deceased individuals whose bodies had been severely burned, officials disclosed.

The victims were identified as Cynthia Duran, aged 41, and Louis Sanchez, aged 48, with the causes of their deaths also determined as homicides, according to law enforcement.

In a news release, sheriff’s officials stated that the bodies of Duran and Sanchez were not present at the site when Castleberry was initially discovered on April 30.

Subsequent investigations led detectives to gather evidence linking Merryman to the three fatalities. Merryman, who was wanted for parole violations, was involved in a vehicular collision in the Oak Run area on May 13 and was subsequently transported to a medical facility in Redding, officials revealed.

Merryman was apprehended by detectives at the hospital, where he remained until he was deemed fit to be processed into custody, officials added.

As of May 23, Merryman was being detained without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on May 24 at Shasta County Superior Court, officials announced.
