Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) responded to a residence on Barberry Street in Willis, Texas on March 16, 2024. The team was called in to assist the MCSO Homicide and Violent Crimes division with a death investigation. Tragically, a twenty-one-year-old male was discovered deceased at the location, with evidence suggesting that he may have overdosed on illicit narcotics. Further investigation revealed that the young man had succumbed to the toxic effects of Fentanyl.

Following a thorough investigation by MOCONET, the individual responsible for supplying the deadly Fentanyl to the deceased was identified as Keian Alexander Cormier. On May 21, 2024, Cormier was apprehended by members of MOCONET and taken into custody, before being transferred to the Montgomery County Jail. He now faces a charge of Murder for providing the Fentanyl that led to the tragic death.

Crackdown on Fentanyl Trafficking

Since 2019, MOCONET has been collaborating with the Houston High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) to combat the trafficking of Fentanyl and its direct link to overdose fatalities in Montgomery County. The efforts of the law enforcement agencies were further bolstered by the passing of House Bill 6 during the 88th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature on September 1, 2023. This legislation allows for individuals to be charged with “Fentanyl Murder” if they supply or distribute Fentanyl, resulting in a death. Thanks to this recent legal development, MOCONET was able to pursue this charge against Cormier with the support of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Collaborative Efforts in Drug Enforcement

The Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) operates as a task force under the Houston High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, comprising key agencies such as the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Walker County District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and Texas Department of Public Safety. This collaborative approach allows for a more coordinated and effective response to the scourge of drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
