NORTH HAVERSTRAW, Rockland County (WABC) — A family from Rockland County, New York, has shared their harrowing experience of being seriously injured during a turbulent Singapore Airlines flight earlier this week.
Drew Kessler, along with his wife and two sons from North Haverstraw, were on board Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London to Singapore when the plane encountered severe turbulence. The flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok.
In a Facebook post, Kessler revealed that he sustained a broken neck, while his wife, Vicki, suffered a broken back. Fortunately, their sons escaped unharmed from the ordeal.
Kessler, who serves as the Treasurer of Rotary International, and his family were en route to the Rotary International Convention in Singapore, where they planned to join over 13,000 attendees from 120 countries at the annual gathering of the service organization.
Emergency services in Bangkok rushed 85 passengers from the flight to various hospitals for treatment, with 19 individuals requiring medical attention for injuries sustained during the turbulence. The flight had a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board.
Tragically, a 73-year-old British citizen named Geoff Kitchen lost his life during the turbulent incident.
