Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a recent court hearing at Media Courthouse, a 60-year-old man from Collingdale, Joseph Dukes, was sentenced to time served to 12 months after pleading guilty to one count of corruption of minors. The sentencing was presided over by Common Pleas Court Judge Mary Alice Brennan.

Joseph Dukes was arrested in July for an attempted child luring incident in Prospect Park. The incident occurred when an 11-year-old girl was approached by Dukes while walking in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue. Dukes, driving a tan or gold older model vehicle, asked the girl if she wanted a ride. The girl declined and sought help from another adult.

Following the incident, Prospect Park Police Chief Dave Madonna issued an alert to warn residents. Thanks to surveillance videos provided by local businesses, the police were able to identify the vehicle and driver. The 11-year-old victim positively identified Dukes as the perpetrator.

Initially charged with luring a child into a motor vehicle, a second-degree felony, Dukes pleaded guilty to one count of corruption of minors, a third-degree felony. The luring charge was subsequently dismissed as part of the negotiated guilty plea.

As part of his sentence, Joseph Dukes will serve one year of sex-offender probation and will be monitored by the sex offender unit of Adult Probation and Parole. This will include internet compliance checks and a requirement to provide a DNA sample to state police. Dukes is also prohibited from having any contact with minors.

During the court hearing, Assistant District Attorney Meghan Rafter and defense counsel Rebecca Richman worked out the details of the guilty plea, which led to the sentencing decision by Judge Mary Alice Brennan.

Joseph Dukes received credit for time served at the county jail in Concord from July 15 to October 31, as well as for time served on electronic home monitoring from November 3 to the present day.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting children from potential dangers in our communities. The collaboration between law enforcement and local businesses played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the perpetrator in this case.
