Anthony Lane : “Suburban Man Sentenced for Assault on Elderly Woman”

DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. – A former Glendale Heights resident has been handed a 58-year prison sentence by the Illinois Department of Corrections for unlawfully entering the residence of an elderly woman and committing a sexual assault in 2021.

Anthony Lane, aged 55, was convicted earlier this year on one charge of breaking into a home and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

On the evening of November 21, 2021, a 92-year-old lady returned home from a dialysis appointment and entered her garage, only to encounter Lane standing in her doorway as she attempted to close the garage door.

Despite her efforts to shut the door, Lane pushed his way into the house, bound the victim’s hands with duct tape, and proceeded to sexually assault her in her bedroom before fleeing the scene.

The victim promptly contacted emergency services and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement officials identified Lane as the prime suspect in the case.

On December 2, 2021, Lane was apprehended by Addison police and subsequently held in custody with a $5 million bond set on December 6, 2021.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed his dismay at the heinous nature of the crime, stating, “The violent, sexual assault of an elderly woman in her own home is one of the most abhorrent acts I have witnessed in over three decades as a prosecutor.”

He continued, “The terror, agony, and trauma inflicted by Mr. Lane on this woman is utterly despicable and deeply disturbing. Today’s lengthy sentence not only removes a highly dangerous individual from society for the foreseeable future but also serves as a stern warning that such violent behaviour will not be tolerated in DuPage County.”

Lane will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence before being considered for parole, with credit given for time served in DuPage County Jail.
