Alexandria Police Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident

In a tragic turn of events, the Alexandria Police Department is currently investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on the evening of Thursday, May 9, 2024. The incident took place at the intersection of North Jordan Street and Taney Avenue, where officers responded to a report of an adult male lying in the roadway with an apparent head injury.

The injured man, identified as 70-year-old James Thomson of Alexandria, claimed to have been struck by a vehicle. He was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injury. However, Mr. Thomson’s condition worsened rapidly, leading to his untimely death on Saturday, May 18.

The exact cause and manner of Mr. Thomson’s death are yet to be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiner. Meanwhile, the Alexandria Police Department is actively pursuing leads and conducting a thorough investigation into the hit-and-run incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, witnesses, or video footage related to the incident to come forward and assist in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
