Leah Harrison : “Tragic Loss: 10-Year-Old Killed in Mudslide”

A devastating incident took place in North Yorkshire, England, where a 10-year-old girl lost her life in a tragic mudslide.

On May 22nd, at approximately 1:15 p.m. local time, North Yorkshire Police responded to the heartbreaking occurrence in the quaint village of Carlton-in-Cleveland. The police confirmed the unfortunate news on their official website.

Authorities verified that “one person had sadly died” in the mudslide, and fortunately, no other individuals were injured in the incident.

The young girl who tragically lost her life has been identified as Leah Harrison, as per a press release from North Yorkshire Police. Her family shared a touching tribute, stating, “You will never ever be forgotten baby girl.”

The family described Leah as a “happy, bubbly, go-lucky little girl,” highlighting her infectious smile, cheerful laughter, and playful nature. They expressed her dream of becoming a player for the Lionesses, the England women’s national soccer team, and wished her eternal peace.

Leah was a 5th Grade student at Mount Pleasant Primary School in Darlington, Yorkshire, and reports suggest that she was part of a school trip following their Standardised Assessment Tests (SATs) last week.

Nick Blackburn, the chief executive of Leah’s school, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss. He mentioned that Leah was a beloved member of the school community and that counseling support is being arranged for students and staff.

According to BBC Yorkshire climate correspondent Paul Hudson, the town of Loftus, located approximately 20 miles from the site of the mudslide, experienced a month’s worth of rainfall within just 12 hours on the day of the tragic incident.

Notably, North Yorkshire Police, the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team (MRT), and Mount Pleasant Primary School have not yet responded to requests for comment on the tragic incident.
