BROOKLYN, NY—A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody on multiple charges, including assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment as a hate crime, and criminal possession of a weapon. The arrest occurred on Wednesday morning at 10:40 AM.
The incident in question was reported on Monday, May 13, at approximately 5:00 PM. A 33-year-old victim, who identifies as non-gender conforming, was sitting on their front steps near Boerum Street and Bushwick Avenue when they were attacked by the assailant. The attacker made derogatory comments about the victim’s sexual orientation before striking them in the head with a metal pipe and fleeing the scene.
As a result of the assault, the victim sustained bruising to the head but declined medical treatment at the scene.
