Armed and Dangerous Man Taken Down by Miami Beach Police During Spring Break

In a dramatic turn of events captured on officer-worn body camera video, Miami Beach Police swiftly apprehended an armed and dangerous individual at a Burger King Whopper Bar in South Beach. The incident occurred on March 8, during one of the busiest spring break weekends of the year.

The footage shows Miami Beach Police officers responding to a call about a man with a gun at the Burger King location along Washington Avenue, near 11th Street. The officers wasted no time in rushing to the scene to contain the situation.

With the restaurant just across the street from Miami Beach Police headquarters, the officers were able to swiftly intervene in what could have been a potentially dangerous situation. The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Michael Anthony Reyes, was in a wheelchair inside the restaurant when the altercation unfolded.

During the incident, Reyes denied being armed, but officers soon discovered a firearm in his possession. The arrest report revealed that the gun was loaded with a chambered round and not in a holster, indicating a serious threat to public safety.

The victim, who was waiting in line to order a meal, recounted how the situation escalated when Reyes started a verbal altercation for no apparent reason. Reyes then brandished the firearm, causing the victim to fear for his life and prompting him to flee towards the exit.

Following the arrest, officers recovered the gun, as well as marijuana and cash from Reyes. The evidence was carefully collected and placed in a Burger King bag before Reyes was taken into custody and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade.

Reyes is now facing multiple felony charges in connection with the incident, adding to an existing pending case. The swift and decisive actions of the Miami Beach Police officers ensured that a potentially dangerous situation was brought under control, highlighting the importance of law enforcement presence during high-impact weekends like spring break.
