Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 41-year-old woman who crashed into a police cruiser and led authorities on a high-speed chase earlier this month that ended in a head-on collision on the 405 Freeway could potentially spend more than two decades behind bars, officials revealed on Wednesday.

The incident, which unfolded on May 17, began around 4:30 a.m. when officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a disturbance call and were intentionally struck by the woman driving a van, identified as Lisa Ann Heflin.

Following the collision, Heflin fled the scene, prompting law enforcement to launch an assault with a deadly weapon pursuit at 4:49 a.m. Aerial footage captured by Sky5 showed the suspect attempting to ram several patrol vehicles and engaging in confrontations with officers.

Despite police efforts to execute pit maneuvers on the northbound 405 Freeway, Heflin continued driving in the wrong direction, ultimately crashing head-on into another vehicle near Sunset Boulevard in the Brentwood area. The collision caused significant damage to at least one vehicle and disabled the van.

With her face covered in blood, Heflin climbed on top of a big rig before being apprehended by officers. The chase resulted in damage to five police vehicles, two civilian vehicles, and a tractor-trailer.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Gascón remarked in a news release announcing charges against Heflin, “I am grateful that the civilians and law enforcement officers involved in this reckless incident were not seriously harmed. Reckless driving and endangering the lives of others is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our community.”

Charges against Heflin include 10 counts of assault upon a peace officer, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly, and one count of hit-and-run resulting in property damage. At her arraignment hearing, Heflin pleaded not guilty to all charges, with bail set at £695,000.

If convicted as charged, Heflin could face a sentence of 22 years and eight months in prison.
