Accident – Death – Obituary News : Juvenile Justice Board Cancels Bail of 17-Year-Old Boy Accused of Fatal Porsche Crash in Pune

In a recent development in Pune, Maharashtra, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has revoked the bail of a 17-year-old boy who was accused of causing a fatal accident by mowing down a biker and a pillion rider with his Porsche. The accused has been sent to a remand home for a period of 14 days, until June 5.

Pune Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, shared details of the case, stating, “We had filed a review application before the Juvenile Justice Board, requesting that the accused be tried as an adult and be sent to a remand home. The Juvenile Justice Board has communicated the operative order to us, and the accused has been remanded to the home until June 5. The decision regarding trying him as an adult will be made in due course.”

Advocate Prashant Patil, representing the accused teenager, also provided insights into the case, mentioning, “The investigating agencies filed a review application before the honourable Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday. The board, consisting of three members, was requested by the investigating agencies to detain the child in conflict with the law (CCL) and send him to a remand home. We opposed the application, citing certain Supreme Court judgements that address this issue.”

The father of the minor accused in the tragic accident involving a luxury vehicle in Pune has been remanded to police custody until May 24. During his transportation to court for a hearing, people threw ink at the police van carrying the accused’s father.

The Juvenile Justice Board has also issued a notice to the 17-year-old accused, summoning him to appear before the board on Wednesday. The incident, which resulted in the untimely demise of two young IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, occurred in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar on May 19.

In the aftermath of the accident, the police have taken stringent measures, including seeking custody of the bar staff where the accused teenager and his friend were allegedly served liquor. It was revealed during the investigation that there was no signage at the bar prohibiting the service of alcohol to minors.

Advocate Asim Saraode confirmed that the court has rejected the father’s bail plea and granted him judicial custody until May 24. The father was detained on May 21 in connection with the tragic incident.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, has urged activists and media personnel to adhere to the Juvenile Justice Act, which prohibits disclosing the identity of juvenile offenders or victims. Pune Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has reiterated the police’s commitment to upholding the law in response to the luxury car accident.
