A tragic accident occurred in Canosia Township, Minnesota, as a teenage girl lost her life in a side-by-side crash earlier this month. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the driver, an 18-year-old individual, may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The crash took place at approximately 10:15 p.m. on May 6 near the intersection of Pike Lake Road and Helm Road in Canosia Township.
The victim, identified as 17-year-old Emma Malmquist from Duluth, was one of four individuals on the two-seater vehicle. The other occupants, a 18-year-old female, a 23-year-old female, and a 27-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to authorities, the 18-year-old driver is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. As a result, the Sheriff’s Office is considering filing criminal charges in connection with the incident.
It is expected that a referral to the County Attorney’s Office will be made in the coming weeks as the investigation continues.
