Everett — The individual who was tragically shot and killed by a Washington state trooper during an altercation on Interstate 5 north of Seattle last week has been officially identified as Marvin Arellano, a 31-year-old resident of Nampa, Idaho, according to reports from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office as detailed by the Daily Herald.

The medical examiner’s office determined that Arellano’s cause of death was attributed to multiple gunshot wounds. The incident took place when the State Patrol responded to a distress call regarding a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Everett on Thursday. The individual proceeded to ram his vehicle into a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle that was operating a lift over a slough with two contractors on board, as previously stated by investigators.

Law enforcement officials indicated that Arellano then proceeded to attack the road workers and a responding trooper, who ultimately shot him. Despite efforts by law enforcement to render aid, Arellano succumbed to his injuries at the scene. One of the contractors sustained injuries during the altercation.
