EVERETT, Wash. — The individual who was fatally shot by a Washington state trooper during a confrontation on Interstate 5 north of Seattle last week has been named as Marvin Arellano, a 31-year-old man from Nampa, Idaho.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Arellano succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds as a result of the incident, as reported by the Daily Herald.

The incident unfolded when the state patrol received a report of a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Everett on Thursday. The man proceeded to ram his vehicle into a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle that was equipped with a lift and had two contractors onboard, according to prior statements from investigators.

Following the collision, Arellano allegedly assaulted the road workers and a responding trooper, who ultimately discharged his weapon, resulting in Arellano’s death at the scene. Despite the efforts of law enforcement officials to render aid, Arellano could not be saved, while one of the contract workers sustained injuries.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, responsible for probing instances of police use of force, has yet to provide an update on the ongoing investigation in response to an email query from The Associated Press.

The identity of the trooper involved in the shooting has not been disclosed to the public at this time.
