LANSING TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) – The Lansing Township Fire Department is grieving the loss of one of their own after a tragic accident in Clinton County over the weekend.
The department announced that 30-year-old John Esch, a dedicated firefighter and paramedic, was one of the victims killed in the crash. He was walking with a family member, Daniel Harris, when they were struck by a car in Watertown Township on May 18. The incident also left several other family members injured, including Esch’s wife.
In a press release, the Lansing Township Fire Department expressed their gratitude to neighbouring fire departments for their support during this difficult time. These departments have provided staffing coverage and assistance to the personnel who responded to the scene and worked closely with John. The fire service and the community have also shown immense care and support for John and his family.
John Esch, who joined the department in July 2020, was known for his compassion, knowledge, and professionalism as a paramedic and firefighter. The department described him as highly respected and dedicated to serving the community and the EMS and fire service.
Funeral arrangements for John Esch are currently pending, and the department is coordinating memorial contributions and messages of condolence. Until a fund can be established, donations can be sent to the following address:
