Accident – Death – Obituary News :

WESTFIELD, Ind. (WXIN) — The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has identified another set of human remains recovered at the former home of Herb Baumeister in Westfield, UK. According to a news release from the office, human remains originally recovered in 1996 from Fox Hollow Farm have been identified as Jeffrey Jones.

This latest identification comes after other remains found on the site were identified last year as Allen Livingston, a man reported missing to the Indianapolis Police Department in 1993. Jones is now the third person to have been identified from remains found on the farm.

The Fox Hollow Farm was once the residence of Baumeister, an Indiana serial killer who police believe targeted gay men in the mid-80s and mid-90s before killing them and disposing of their bodies on the property. Officials stated that more than 10,000 pieces of remains have been recovered at Fox Hollow Farm, including bones, fragments, and body parts. Investigators have four other DNA profiles still unidentified, bringing the total number of known victims to 12.

Forensic Genetic Genealogy Investigation

According to the release, Jones’ remains were identified through an extensive forensic genetic genealogy investigation conducted by the coroner’s office and the FBI. Jones, a Fillmore resident, was reported missing in August 1993. The release also mentioned that the four unidentified DNA profiles will be sent to the FBI for further genetic genealogy investigation.

“Because many of the remains were found burnt and crushed, this investigation is extremely challenging; however, the team of law enforcement and forensic specialists working the case remain committed,” said Jeff Jellison, the Hamilton County Coroner. Jellison expressed gratitude towards the FBI, Indiana State Police Laboratory, Dr. Krista Latham of the Biology & Anthropology Department at the University of Indianapolis, and DNA experts from Texas-based Othram Laboratory for their assistance in the investigation.

History of the Investigation

The investigation at Fox Hollow Farm began in 1996 when Baumeister’s 15-year-old son discovered bones on the family’s 18-acre estate. Baumeister passed away shortly after the discovery. The release highlighted the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and forensic specialists in unravelling the mysteries surrounding the remains found on the property.
