Following the tragic accident on May 19 involving a Porsche car driven by a 17-year-old boy that resulted in the deaths of two individuals, the father of the minor has been remanded in police custody until May 24 by a sessions court in Pune.

The incident has caused a stir on social media, prompting a heated exchange between BJP and Opposition leaders over the immediate bail granted to the minor accused.

Subsequent to the collision, the juvenile driver was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), which swiftly granted him bail. However, the police have now sought a review of this decision from the JJ board.

On the fateful day of May 19, a Porsche car, reportedly driven by the juvenile, struck two motorbike riders in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, leading to their untimely demise. Authorities have alleged that the juvenile was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Victims of the Tragedy

The two individuals who lost their lives in the accident were identified as Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both hailing from Madhya Pradesh. Anish resided in Birsinghpur Pali in Umaria district, while Ashwini was from Jabalpur.

Release of the Accused

The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) granted bail to the minor accused on the same day as the incident and instructed him to visit the Regional Transport Office to familiarize himself with traffic regulations. The board also mandated the submission of a presentation on road accidents and their solutions within 15 days.

Arrest of the Father

In response to the social media uproar, the teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, a real estate developer, was apprehended in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) on May 21.

Custody of Father and Others

On May 22, the minor’s father and employees of Black Club pub—Nitesh Shevani and Jayesh Gavkar—where the juvenile purportedly consumed alcohol, appeared before additional sessions judge S P Ponkshe. The court remanded them in police custody until May 24.

Legal Allegations

As per the First Information Report (FIR), the real estate developer provided his son with the car despite knowing that the boy lacked a driving license, thereby endangering his life. Furthermore, he allowed his son to partake in revelry despite knowledge of his alcohol consumption.

Charges and Investigation

The police have filed a case against the teenager’s father under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act and against the proprietors and staff of two bars for serving alcohol to a minor.

Prosecution’s Request

The prosecution has requested custody of the father to probe why he permitted his son to drive a car without a number plate and why he absconded after the son’s case was registered. Additionally, they aim to investigate the father’s possessions, including his mobile phones.

Family Connections

According to a report by India Today, the accused’s grandfather, Surendra Kumar Agarwal, is allegedly involved in a legal case related to a shootout and purportedly associated with gangster Chhota Rajan. The report also suggests his involvement in a property dispute leading to collaboration with Chhota Rajan’s criminal network.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve has raised questions regarding Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ visit to Pune following the accident, hinting at potential interference with investigative processes.
