BOUND BROOK BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – A Middlesex County man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Bound Brook Borough, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.
A Somerset County Jury reached a verdict on May 14, finding Lenic Galvan, 22, of Piscataway guilty of second-degree sexual assault by contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, McDonald confirmed.
The case dates back to July 25, 2021, when the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received a report from a 12-year-old girl alleging that she had been sexually assaulted in Bound Brook Borough by an unidentified man she had met on social media, McDonald explained.
An investigation into the incident was launched by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and officers from the Bound Brook Borough Police Department.
During an interview conducted by a detective from the Special Victims Unit, the young victim disclosed that she had connected with a man on social media, later identified as Galvan, who had arranged for her to visit his residence where the assault took place, McDonald revealed.
Following the investigation and DNA evidence, Galvan was apprehended without any issues on July 26, 2022, in Bound Brook Borough. He was subsequently charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault by contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to McDonald.
Galvan is set to be sentenced on July 10 and could face up to ten years in New Jersey State Prison, with 85% of the sentence to be served without the possibility of parole under the No Early Release Act. Additionally, he will be required to comply with Megan’s Law and be subject to Parole Supervision for Life, McDonald added.
