Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The recent incident involving Singapore Airlines Flight SQ308 has left many in shock, with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong expressing his “deepest condolences” to the family and loved ones of the deceased passenger, Geoff Kitchen, a musical theatre director from near Bristol.

Singaporean authorities are sending investigators to Bangkok to probe the incident, with Wong stating on Facebook that they are “working closely with Thai authorities” to determine the cause of the tragedy.

According to the airline, the flight had a total of 56 Australian passengers, 47 British passengers, and 41 Singaporean passengers on board. Malaysia’s foreign ministry reported that nine of its nationals were hospitalized, with one in critical but stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing individuals in Singapore Airlines yellow vests entering the grounded plane in Bangkok on Wednesday, as investigations into the incident continue.

US-based aerospace safety expert Anthony Brickhouse cautioned against passengers being too casual on board commercial aircraft, highlighting the importance of following safety protocols even when the seatbelt sign is turned off.

Passenger accounts of the incident varied, with one individual, Davies, describing a sudden drop in altitude coinciding with the seatbelt sign coming on. Another passenger, Allison Barker, relayed her son’s message of being on “a crazy flight” that ultimately led to an emergency landing.

Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Barker shared her anxiety and uncertainty during the ordeal, stating, “It was terrifying. I didn’t know what was going on. We didn’t know whether he’d survived, it was so nerve-racking. It was the longest two hours of my life.”

Experts have noted that climate change could potentially increase instances of clear air turbulence, which poses a significant risk to aircraft. A study conducted in 2023 revealed a concerning trend of rising cases of clear air turbulence, with the most severe instances seeing a more than 50% increase.

As investigations continue into the Singapore Airlines Flight SQ308 incident, authorities are focused on determining the factors that led to the tragic outcome and ensuring the safety of air travel for all passengers.
