WEXFORD COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — Northbound US-131 has reopened in Wexford County following a four-hour closure on Tuesday due to a serious three-vehicle crash that left multiple people hospitalised with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.
The crash, which took place near old north US-131 in Liberty Township, was caused by a 53-year-old Lake City man failing to slow down while approaching a line of slow-moving traffic due to road maintenance.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man’s vehicle collided with the rear of an SUV in front of him before continuing a short distance and hitting another vehicle.
Injuries and Hospitalisations
The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old Mesick woman, and her 17-year-old son were rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. Additionally, another passenger in the SUV, the woman’s 15-year-old son, was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the 53-year-old Lake City man sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the driver and passenger of the third vehicle involved in the crash emerged unscathed.
