Thane, May 22 (PTI) – A 29-year-old man was apprehended by the police in Navi Mumbai after they confiscated mephedrone valued at Rs 7 lakh from his possession, according to an official statement.
Officers from the police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) noticed the man behaving suspiciously near a garden in the Belapur area on Tuesday evening.
Upon conducting a search, the police discovered 70 grams of mephedrone with an estimated worth of Rs 7 lakh in his possession, as stated by an official from the CBD police station.
The suspect, identified as Soheb Mohammad Sayyed, was arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official added.
Investigation ongoing
An investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the contraband and the individual’s intended recipients for distribution, the authorities disclosed.
