Three Indian-origin students tragically lost their lives in a car accident in the US state of Georgia, with two others sustaining injuries, according to local police reports.
The victims were identified as Sriya Avasarala, Anvi Sharma, and Aryan Joshi, who were passengers in a single-vehicle crash that occurred on May 14 on Westside Parkway in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Authorities stated that the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing the car to overturn and come to rest in a tree line. Tragically, Joshi and Avasarala were pronounced dead at the scene, while Sharma succumbed to her injuries at North Fulton Hospital.
Rithwak Somepalli, a student at Georgia State University, was behind the wheel during the accident, with Mohammed Liyakath, a senior at Alpharetta High School, also injured in the crash. Both survivors are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
All five individuals involved in the accident were 18 years old, as confirmed by the authorities. Avasarala and Sharma were students at the University of Georgia, while Joshi was a senior at Alpharetta High School.
The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to veer off the road and flip over, leading to the closure of Westside Parkway between Hembree Road and Maxwell Road. Initial investigations suggest that speed may have been a contributing factor to the tragic accident.
