In a video statement, Phong expressed deep regret for the distressing experience that everyone onboard SQ321 had to endure.

The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, experienced extreme turbulence while flying over the Irrawaddy Basin in Myanmar at an altitude of 37,000 feet on Tuesday. The incident resulted in multiple injuries among the passengers and crew.

The airline CEO emphasised that Singapore Airlines is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities in their investigations into the incident. He reiterated the airline’s commitment to assisting and supporting the affected individuals during this challenging time.

The passengers onboard SQ321 represented a diverse range of nationalities, including Australians, Canadians, Germans, Indians, Indonesians, Icelanders, Irish, Israelis, Malaysians, Myanmarese, New Zealanders, Filipinos, Singaporeans, South Koreans, Spaniards, Britons, and Americans.

This tragic event marks Singapore Airlines’ first fatal incident in 24 years.
