Accident – Death – Obituary News : The remains of a New Jersey mother who went missing 14 years ago have been discovered submerged in a car in the Cooper River last week, as reported by a non-profit organization that supports missing persons.

Bernadine Gunner, aged 52 at the time of her disappearance on July 7, 2010, was last seen in Camden, according to the Camden County Police Department.

The breakthrough in the case came last week when the United Search Corps, a non-profit dedicated to advocating for missing individuals and conducting underwater searches, located the submerged vehicle containing Gunner’s remains. The founder of the United Search Corps, Doug Bishop, made the discovery using sonar and divers in the murky depths of the Cooper River in Pennsauken.

After identifying multiple cars underwater, including a Hyundai Elantra matching the description of Gunner’s vehicle, Bishop located the human remains inside. The following day, with the assistance of authorities, the vehicle and remains were recovered from the water.

Bishop expressed his relief at finally being able to provide closure to Gunner’s family after over a decade of uncertainty. He recounted informing Gunner’s relatives of the discovery, describing it as a moment of both tragedy and relief.

Julia Young, one of Gunner’s children, took to Facebook to express her gratitude to Bishop and the United Search Corps for bringing closure to their family. Despite expressing dissatisfaction with the local police’s handling of her mother’s case, Young commended Bishop for his efforts in locating Gunner.

Bishop, who believes Gunner’s entry into the water was accidental, highlighted the importance of public awareness in solving missing persons cases. He emphasized the need for continued advocacy and search efforts to bring closure to families like Gunner’s.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, in a recent news release, confirmed the discovery of human remains and multiple vehicles in the Cooper River. While the identity of the individual found is pending DNA testing, Bishop remains hopeful that the results will provide further clarity in Gunner’s case.

As the investigation into the other vehicles found in the river continues, Bishop and the United Search Corps remain committed to advocating for missing persons and providing closure to families in need. Their dedication to raising awareness and conducting thorough searches underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in resolving cases like Gunner’s disappearance..
