BROOKINGS, S.D. (Brookings Radio) – A routine traffic stop in Brookings on Friday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old driver on serious charges, including rape and contributing to the delinquency of minors.

The incident unfolded just after 1 p.m. when authorities received reports of a vehicle driving erratically on Interstate 29. Police quickly located and pulled over the vehicle at a city intersection, where they identified the driver as Justin Paulson of Sinai.

To their shock, officers discovered two young girls, aged 14 and 17, in the vehicle with Paulson. It was later revealed that Paulson had picked up the girls in Sioux Falls and was on his way back to Brookings.

A subsequent investigation uncovered disturbing details, indicating that Paulson not only knew the girls but had also engaged in sexual activities with the 14-year-old in exchange for money. Additionally, Paulson allegedly provided alcohol to the minors, further exacerbating the situation.

As a result of these findings, Paulson was arrested on multiple charges, including Felony Rape, Sexual Contact with a Child Under Sixteen, Prostitution, and Contributing to the Abuse, Neglect, or Delinquency of a Minor. He was promptly taken into custody and transported to the Brookings County Jail, where his bond was set at £25,000 in cash.

Thankfully, the two girls were safely released into the care of their parents following Paulson’s arrest. This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt action in protecting vulnerable individuals from harm.
