Pune, 21st May (PTI) – Following a tragic incident in Pune where a speeding luxury car, a Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old boy under the influence of alcohol, claimed the lives of two software engineers, the father of the teenager has been arrested. The incident took place in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune in the early hours of Sunday.
The father, a prominent real estate developer, was detained from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar town and later arrested by the crime branch. The boy’s actions have led to the death of two motorbike-borne software engineers, identified as Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed the arrest of the father and stated that he will be produced before a court on Wednesday. Additionally, Jayesh Bonkar, a staff member at Hotel Blak Club where the boy was served liquor, has also been arrested.
Earlier arrests were made in connection with the case including the owner and managers of establishments where the boy was served alcohol. Naman Pralhad Bhutda, owner of Cosie restaurant, its manager Sachin Katkar, and Sandip Sangle, manager of Blak Club hotel, were remanded in police custody until 24th May.
Legal Charges
The father has been charged under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act and relevant IPC provisions. Section 75 pertains to the “willful neglect of a child and exposing them to mental or physical harm”, while section 77 deals with supplying a child with intoxicating substances.
The FIR lodged in connection with the accident highlights the father’s negligence in allowing his son to drive without a valid licence and consume alcohol. This reckless behaviour ultimately led to the tragic loss of lives.
As the investigation continues, the authorities are working to bring justice to the victims and their families impacted by this devastating incident in Pune.
